Gotta Catch 'Em All, or ELSE!

I am a man of the 90's. That is a simple fact. I grew up on the NES and SNES, Skip Its, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Sure, there were some dark moments I would rather forget (I'm looking at you, Furby!), but overall, I wish that decade was back. The N64 changed our views on 64-bit games, and brought us some timeless classics, like Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda, Ocarania of Time, and Super Smash Bros. Meanwhile, on the handheld market, we were still stuck with Gameboy-type graphics. However, that did not stop to what has become the monster known as.....Pokemon.....

The initial game was a success, starting with Red and Blue, and I was intrigued, but waited for the Yellow Version that added unnecessary tie-ins with the current anime, and forced you to have this yellow rat thing follow you around, that is known as Pikachu, the face of Pokemon itself. I was amazed at the addictive nature of the game. My love of it led to me getting the Red version of the game (never got the blue because it seemed redundant), and getting the anime on VHS. For about 3 years, I was one of the worst Pokeholics that I have ever been. Then I preordered Gold, and had a blast with it. Something happened after that, however. I never got another game. I got Collesium, which I was VERY disappointed with, and *shudder* Hey You, Pikachu on the N64. After that, nothing. I have no clue why, but maybe I just lost interest. This may have been the start of my not liking the RPG-type of game. I wish I knew. I even stopped getting the anime. I just...quit it.

Jump forward to now. I was cleaning my room, and found my old Pokemon Gold cartridge. It made me look up the franchise on Wikipedia. All I can say

Why do their need to be over 400 types of these NOT REAL creatures? Why do the newer ones look like bird blobs? Why can several of to youth sputter out the name of each and every Pokemon out there, IN ORDER, but can't name 3 of the rights garunteed in the First Admendment? These are questions that no one is asking but me.

I started to play the yellow one, and could name some of the Pokemon, but I did not remember a good portion of them. I had a good time, but I put it away. I also totally legally played FireRed, a remake of the original game, and it was good too. I am thinking of picking up Diamond or Pearl, and see if I can survive 2 days with it. This time, I do know the difference between just enjoying a game, and becoming obsessed with it, so I don't see a lot of the old things happening, especially now that I have responsiblities and such.

I think I can partially blame Kingdom Hearts for making me try the RPG genre another shot. Honestly, that is all I can peg it on. There IS a Kingdom Hearts game coming to the DS this winter, but I want to hear more about it before I purchase it. They said it would play like the original game, but be centered around organization XIII. If there aren't a plethora of Disney Characters in it, then I may not get it. We will see as more develops.

Anyways, that is my splurb on Pokemon for the night. Have a good one!
