Nintendo Press Conference @ E3 '08 (GTA, Seriously, Nintendo?)
Ice King, Adventure Time

I had low hopes for this year's conference.

And thank goodness for that. I was not nearly as disappointed as some people.

A short recap on the event is as follows:

Interesting Developments:

Wii Speak - A new "live chat" perefferal for the Wii, that looks like a microphone on top of your tv. I'd prefer a headset, but hey, at least it is one thing the "core" group wanted, aside from a storage solution.

Wii Sports: Resort - How many people predicted this. I don't think this will be as engauging as the in-packaged Wii Sports, but it does look interesting. It is due this spring.

GTA: Chinatown - A GTA for the DS? What is this world coming to? :( I don't like the idea, but I know this will boost the sales of the DS indeffinately.

Meh Developments:

New Guitar Hero Tour for DS - With interoperability between "Tour" titles. That osunds neat, but I still have yet to pick up the first one. The Guitar Hero franchise, for me, seem to be getting out of control.

Wii Music - Not your typical music game. I'll probably pick it up when it comes out, but I'm a music freak, so take that!

Animal Crossing - New Animal Crossing. Yay?

Why, Nintendo, Why Developments (Or Lack Thereof)

Predictions not come to pass as of today:

NO new DS design in sight (If people predicted new DS with no GBA slot, they are wrong, mostly because of the new Guitar Hero coming out. Why get rid of something that prints money?)

NO talk on a storage solution for the Wii. :( Tons of people are crying at this time.

NO new Zelda preview, or mention.

New Rayman? Seriously Nintendo, what are you smoking?

Again, GRAND THEFT AUTO ON THE DS???????????? I know you are trying to claim back the core crowd, but this seems like a direction I am really not liking, if your definition of "core" is "blood, guts, and prostitution...").

Even the presenters didn't seem too enthused.

All in all, the Tuesday press conference gets a 5/10 from me. There might be some innovations, but I don't really like any of them.

However, there is still hope.

While the press conference is where the developers show off their "big guns", there might still be a few suprises yet to be seen. If I see "EBA 2" mentioned anywhere, you will know it. I hope to also hear about a new Professor Layton, or something that gives me hope for the rest of 08-09. Please, Nintendo, I'm begging you!

Seriously though, GTA???? I say this in exasperation, but Holy Monkey, Nintendo....Holy Monkey indeed.....

:(
