Theme Songs Make No Sense Sometimes
Ice King, Adventure Time

I have an admission to make. I used to make fun of anime theme songs. Seriously, most of them make absolutely no sense. I've been watching Hetalia: Axis Powers and the ending credits song makes no sense whatsoever. Hey hey, mama. Hey hey, papa. Something about drinking beer out of a boot. Use a brush and paint the colors of the world. Something to that effect. It seems like almost every anime theme song I have watched makes about that much sense to me. They don't. I could go on and on, but I made a startling discovery the other day.

Namely, this:

Now watch this, and please, PLEASE tell me how this theme song makes any sense whatsoever. It starts off promising, but when you think about it, what the heck does it have to do with the show itself? Here is another example:

Again, it makes absolutely no sense. Look up the Full House theme song. Its the same thing. I know I'm picking on 90's television theme songs, but still, American television is not immune to the "theme song makes no sense" bug.

Well, that comes to my second startling revelation. I found a theme song that does make sense. It brings me no pleasure to show you this, but this may be the most relevant theme song of all time:

You know its a screwed up universe when Saved by the Bell of all shows makes the most sense.

So out of this I've learned to never question anime songs again, because we are just as guilty as they are. Good luck getting the songs out of your head.

The thing I don't get is why do they have Step by Step in WISCONSIN. I never knew that. Then again I rarely watch American TV because I find most shows not interesting. Ok almost all shows. I want to rant about that because they have Six Flags near Chicago, Illinois THERE is NO ROLLER COASTER like that in Wisconsin. It's like a 30 minute drive to get from Port Washington to Six Flags.

Yeah at times they need to make no sense. Look at the Drew Carey show. Cleveland ROCKS.

Umm, again, I think you guys are missing the point of theme songs ...

The Drew Carey show takes place in Cleveland.

These Songs Make Perfect Sense

Are you sure you're familiar with the concept of a "theme song"? It's a song about the theme of the show. In the case of Family Matters, Full House and Step by Step, the songs are all EXACTLY about the theme of the shows ... family.

For example, the Family Matters theme song is literally about how family matters in today's modern society. The Full House theme song is also about finding refuge in the family and home in today's crazy world. The Step by Step theme song is about second chances and new beginnings which is actually the real life theme of a newly formed blended family.

However, what brought me to this blog was the desire to find someone who shared my pain about insane Anime theme songs. I don't think anyone doubts how strange those numbers are. I have to assume the translations I'm reading are off because that's some of the most nonsensical craziness I've ever heard. I mean, straight cuckoonuttybananas status!

Re: These Songs Make Perfect Sense

Hey, thanks for the random comment on an old post! It's nice to see someone else reading this stuff.

As for the purpose of the theme song, yes, these accomplish what they set out to do. Overall, you can tell the theme of the song, but when you look at the lyrics closely, they make little sense. To quote the Family Matters theme:

"Well then there must be some magic clue inside these gentle walls
Cause all I see is a tower of dreams
real love burstin' out of every seam."

I mean yes, the overall theme is love and family. I get it. However, the actual lyrics really don't make a lot of sense. I will give you Step by Step, it does make more sense, but Full House drops the ball:

"What ever happened to predictability?
The milk man, the paper boy, evening T.V.
When did I get to living here? Somebody tell me please
This whole worlds confusing me."

Yes, again, the theme is about family being there, but the lyrics...they confuse me. Don't get me wrong, I love them and find myself humming them from time to time, but the lyrics are a little confusing at times.
